CHRISTMAS COOKIE DAY – Review

Written by Tara Knudson – Illustrated by Pauline Siewert

This fun, festive book is certain to get you in the Christmas spirit. Christmas Cookie Day shares the joy of baking biscuits in such a merry and engaging way. The short, rhyming texts explaining the steps to baking cookies, makes the story flow like you are singing a Christmas jingle. The illustrations are so bright and lively. The front page even includes glitter!

I’m pretty sure at some point during the lock-down, every parent or carer did some baking with their little ones (maybe even by themselves to get some time away from their little ones). Now heading closer to Christmas, this book is so perfect for baking cookies together and gifting them to the loved ones we have all dearly missed. Despite some of us not being able to see our loved ones at Christmas time, Knudson reminds us of the importance of enjoying the moments spent with family. This book truly makes you feel all warm inside and definitely gets you in the mood to bake!

If you don’t traditionally bake Christmas cookies, not to worry. Knudson provides us with a simple Christmas cookie recipe on the back and I’m sure most already have these ingredients in doors.

It is safe to say, this book is well loved in our household. It will definitely become a tradition to read this book then bake our own Christmas cookies and gift them to family. I would recommend this book to parents to children of any age. The text is engaging and simple for even the youngest of readers to understand and can be adapted for the older children to make use of i.e. reading the recipe themselves.
